Moroccan company FBR Cables officially inaugurated its new optical fiber and network cable manufacturing plant on Monday in Berrechid, in the presence of Minister of Industry and Trade Ryad Mezzour.
The project represents a total investment of 200 million dirhams (approximately $20 million) and will create 165 direct jobs, further strengthening Morocco’s industrial and digital infrastructure ecosystem.
Production Capacity Reaches 70,000 Kilometers Annually
Built on a 15,000-square-meter site, the new industrial unit consolidates all of the company’s operations and increases its annual production capacity to 70,000 kilometers of optical fiber cables.
FBR Cables aims to supply nearly 60% of Morocco’s domestic market demand, which is estimated at between 120,000 and 130,000 kilometers per year.
The facility also manufactures advanced Category 6, 7, and 8 network cables, positioning it among the most significant cable production plants in Africa.
Strategic Boost to Morocco’s Industrial Sovereignty
Speaking at the inauguration, Minister Ryad Mezzour described the 100% Moroccan-owned factory as a strategic milestone for the country’s industrial development. He emphasized that the project aligns with the Kingdom’s broader vision to strengthen industrial and technological sovereignty and promote the “Made in Morocco” label.
According to the minister, the new plant effectively doubles Morocco’s national optical fiber production capacity and positions the country as a regional export hub serving African markets. He noted that the facility ranks among the most advanced of its kind on the continent.
Strengthening Morocco’s Digital Infrastructure
The expansion of optical fiber production is expected to significantly enhance internet connectivity for Moroccan households and businesses. The project supports the modernization of national digital infrastructure and contributes to Morocco’s ambitions in broadband expansion and digital transformation.
African Market Expansion and South-South Cooperation
FBR Cables’ CEO, Youssef Jannat, stated that the new factory integrates the latest technologies and was developed entirely with Moroccan capital and expertise.
The company is already exporting to several West African markets, including Guinea, Burkina Faso, Mali, and Gabon, and plans to further expand its footprint across the region.
Jannat explained that this strategy is part of a broader South-South cooperation vision, focusing on producing high value-added technical components locally in Morocco and exporting them to West Africa for transformation into finished products, particularly optical fiber cables.
