“Startup Weego Raises $1.1 Million to Upgrade Urban Transport Across Morocco”

Moroccan-Senegalese mobility startup Weego has raised $1.1 million in funding from Azur Innovation Fund to scale its multimodal transport platform, strengthen its technology team, and prepare for expansion across Africa and international markets.

Founded in 2020 by entrepreneurs Saad Jittou and Mor Niane, Weego develops digital infrastructure that connects public and private transportation services into a single platform.

The system integrates buses, trams, taxis, and private transport operators, enabling users to plan, track, and manage trips in real time through one interface.

Funding to Accelerate Mobility Innovation in Morocco

The new investment from Azur Innovation Fund will allow Weego to:

  • Strengthen its engineering and technology teams
  • Improve data integration across transport networks
  • Expand operations into additional cities across Morocco
  • Grow its business-to-business (B2B) transport services
  • Prepare for expansion into other African markets, Europe, and the Middle East

The funding highlights increasing investor interest in smart mobility and urban transport technology in Africa.

Tackling Urban Transport Challenges in African Cities

Urban congestion remains a major challenge in many African metropolitan areas. In Morocco, improving transport efficiency and infrastructure is becoming increasingly important as the country works toward its 2030 economic and urban development goals.

Weego aims to solve this problem by creating a digital layer that connects fragmented transport systems, making them easier for commuters, businesses, and city operators to use.

“Transportation is the primary obstacle to economic activity in our cities,” said Saad Jittou, CEO and co-founder of Weego.

“By 2030, our metropolitan areas will have to manage unprecedented passenger flows. At Weego, we are building the technological layer that connects existing infrastructure to make it more efficient. This funding enables us to accelerate this vision in Morocco and begin our regional expansion.”

Expanding Transport Solutions for Businesses

In addition to serving individual commuters, Weego also provides transport management solutions for companies.

Its platform helps businesses:

  • Organize employee transportation services
  • Reduce logistics and transport costs
  • Improve employee punctuality and operational efficiency

These services position Weego as both a consumer mobility platform and an enterprise transport solution provider.

Investor Confidence in African Mobility Tech

According to Adnane Filali, the investment reflects the growing importance of integrated mobility solutions across African cities.

“Weego’s approach addresses a critical need: the unification of transport modes,” Filali said.

“By investing in this solution, we are supporting a Moroccan innovation capable of becoming a regional standard and meeting the modernization requirements of our African cities.”

Weego’s Regional Growth Strategy

Operating from Morocco, Weego plans to use the new funding to scale its technology and replicate its mobility model across similar urban markets in Africa and beyond.

As cities continue to grow and transportation systems become more complex, integrated digital mobility platforms like Weego could play a key role in shaping the future of urban transport in emerging markets.
